New Bathroom Fan Smaller Than Old
I just had an electrician replace a bathroom fan light.
New bathroom fan smaller than old. Simply remove the old fan attach the new housing hook up the ductwork and wiring and you re done. Hold the base of the new fan housing to the ceiling and draw the new opening size photo 4. Does anyone have any ideas for an alternate solutio. Then i used a reciprocating saw for the first time and got a little crazy with it.
If the gap is larger than 2 you re going to have to make the hole bigger before you can make it smaller. Thus there are some unsightly gaps. Next take out the vent fan housing to completely remove the old bathroom fan. If not you ll have to patch the ceiling with drywall.
I took out the old one. Most new quiet fans are larger than the old fans. To simplify cutting line up two sides with the existing hole. Simplify the installation process when installing a new bath fan with a new easy install model.
I can t imagine that will be very pretty. To install the new fan place the housing of the new fan into the ceiling or wall framing and connect the vent pipe which is the large silvery pipe that transfers air from the bathroom. But if the new fan is bigger than the old one you will need to enlarge the hole in your ceiling. Install the new fan.
If it has the same measurements as your old fan you will be able to install it immediately. If the opening is smaller or has a different shape than the new housing as was the case here trace the outline of the housing on the ceiling then cut along the line with a jab saw. Cut out a square of drywall around the fan until you get to the center of a joist on each side of the fan. I m not sure what to do now.
Head back down to your bathroom and remove the new fan from its packaging. He plans to return with some caulk to fill in the openings. With replacing bathroom ceiling fans is it not so much that the new fan has a different sized cover the part that shows when you look up at the ceiling and therefore will need a different sized ceiling hole to get it to stay up. Step 3 insert the fan photo by wendell t.
Cut a new piece of drywall to fit the hole you just made then cut out a hole in this piece to fit your fan housing. I m installing a bathroom fan where a light fixture used to be. The issue is that the previous hole is larger than the new fan casing. Upon getting into the attic i see that there used to be a fan in this location before and the hole has been patched.
If the hole is bigger than the new housing you ll need to fill in around it. After that attach the wiring of the new fan to the wiring in the ceiling or wall. Wear goggles while cutting. The new unit grille is smaller than the old one was.
Now the hole is slightly too big and when i put the grill cover on the fan i can see the hole. No cut or roomside bathroom fan models can be installed in new construction or used to replace older fans in existing construction.
