Leaving Shoes Outside Apartment Door
Hello at we live on the third floor of a small co op that s just five units.
Leaving shoes outside apartment door. It s mostly a habit leftover from my mother who after installing new carpet in my childhood home required shoe removal before entering. This past weekend they hung coat hooks outside their door and now they re storing their hats and coats and scarves in the hallway in. The only practice of removing shoes outside the home is before entering inside the mosque. However people never remove shoes when in a mosque s courtyard or garden.
I m in the habit of kicking off my shoes at the door of my apartment. In my bldg the rules very clearly state that no one can leave things in the hallway. The owners on the second floor have been using the narrow hallway just outside their apartment as a storage area leaving piles of shoes and their kid s stroller out there. We liked to sit on the floor and watch tv.
My parents didn t believe in wearing shoes from outside like when people spit on sidewalks dogs poop dirt etc and track that into the clean home. As we are rewriting our rules and regs the topic of storing items immediately outside the unit s door has become a hot topic. It turns out that there are many benefits to removing one s shoes at the door. In former yugoslavia keeping one s shoes on indoors is generally frowned upon as rude and unhygienic and visitors that venture beyond the entry hallway are expected to remove them.
But you can take additional safety measures to ensure that contaminants don t enter your home by cleaning off your shoes and either leaving them at the door or designating an area safely away. Our sneakers and everyday shoes were organized in a shoe rack in the mud room. It s not hard to imagine the many harmful things that attach themselves to the bottom of your shoes. And our floors were always spotless.
