Unlike the full power at low engraving speed that is required for wood or paper processing we recommend different settings for hard stone surfaces. For best laser engraving results use dark polished and natural types of stone such as granite marble and basalt. Laser engraving stones produces stone dust which can stick and cause stringing depending on the type of stone. You should also be able to load these settings into your computer or laser and save them as presets.
The guiding values to achieve good engraving results were determined using a speedy 360 100 w and will also ultimately depend on your laser power your specific stone and your graphics. I use this a lot if i m engraving on leather. The more homogeneous and fine grained the stone is the better the laser engraving results will be. The ability to laser engrave mark or etch stone as a hobbyist or as a high end product to customers opens up a wide array of possibilities.
Most of the stone types we have discussed in this article are relatively soft and can easily be sandblasted to a depth of 1 4 or more using a quality polyester mask. After laser engraving the stone piece you are ready to sandblast to the desired depth. The more homogeneous and fine grained the stone the better the results of the stone engraving will be. To do this place the stone on a horizontal plane and use a support such as modelling clay to hold it.

Here is a list of stone types that are in our experience very well suited for laser engraving. Therefore check the nozzle opening before each engraving job and even during an engraving job if it is a long job the nozzle can be clogged by the stone dust and block the path for the laser beam.
For optimal laser engraving results the stone should have an optimally flat surface to prevent the final engraving being distorted by curves. As a starting value use 100 power p with around 30 speed v for a laser engraver with 60 watts and then 100 power and around 15 speed for any machines with less than 60 watts. Stones with a rounded surface can also be engraved.
